I attended Toa Afi Orlando in 2025, and it was one of the most memorable cultural events I've experienced in Central Florida.

The East Coast Pacific Islander Festival and Toa Afi Orlando Siva Afi Competition returned to Geneva, Florida, October 17–18, 2026, for its 10th anniversary.

The festival brings together Samoan fire knife dancing, Tahitian dance, hula, Polynesian music, food, crafts, and families from across the Pacific Islander community.

And while the fire knife competition is certainly the visual centerpiece, there's something else that makes this event stand out. It's not a theme-park interpretation of Polynesian culture. It's a celebration built around the people, families, and communities who keep these traditions alive.

For someone who spends a fair amount of time exploring tiki culture and tropical experiences around Central Florida, that makes Toa Afi particularly special.

What Is Toa Afi Orlando?

At the heart of the festival is the Toa Afi Orlando Siva Afi Competition. Siva afi, commonly known as Samoan fire knife dancing, brings together athleticism, choreography, rhythm, and remarkable control of a flaming knife.

Toa Afi Orlando's mission is centered on teaching and perpetuating the art of Samoan fire knife dancing while creating opportunities for Pacific Islanders to share their music, art, food, dance, and cultural traditions.

The organization dates its beginnings to 2016, growing from a community-centered gathering into a significant Pacific Islander cultural celebration on the East Coast.

Having attended in 2025, what struck me most wasn't simply the performances. It was the community surrounding them: competitors, families, musicians, dancers, artists, vendors, volunteers, and visitors coming together for something bigger than a weekend of entertainment.

The Fire Knife Competition

If there's one thing that can stop you in your tracks at Toa Afi Orlando, it's the fire knife dancing.

During my 2025 visit, the combination of flaming knives, live drumming, athleticism, and crowd reactions created some of the most visually impressive moments of the weekend. Watching a skilled performer spin, toss, catch, and maneuver a flaming knife is something else entirely in person.

There's the obvious spectacle of the flames, but also the timing, precision, and years of practice behind what you're watching.

The competition is one of the major reasons people come to Toa Afi, and it provides an exciting introduction to the broader cultural celebration happening around it.

A Glimpse of Toa Afi Orlando

There's an energy to this festival that's difficult to capture in a photograph. The drums, the performers, the crowd, and the excitement all come together.

For a glimpse of that atmosphere, here's a Reel shared by Aloha Productions Luau.

Tahitian Dance, Hula, and Live Music

The fire knife competition might draw the biggest initial reaction, but it's far from the only performance worth experiencing.

Toa Afi also features the A'Ori Mai Tahitian Dance Competition, hula, Polynesian music, drumming, and performances representing different Pacific Islander traditions.

One thing I enjoyed during my 2025 visit was that there always seemed to be something happening beyond the main competition.

And for our family, the dance performances have a particularly meaningful connection.

More Than Fire and Flames

One of the reasons Toa Afi Orlando is especially meaningful to me is our family's longtime connection to Kalena's Polynesian 'Ohana.

Our daughter has been dancing hula for years, and Polynesian music, dance, and community have become a familiar and meaningful part of our lives.

That's part of what makes an event like Toa Afi so enjoyable. It's a chance to celebrate those traditions, support the performers and families who keep them thriving, and spend time surrounded by a community we've come to know over the years.

It's also a reminder that there's a meaningful difference between enjoying Polynesian-inspired entertainment and experiencing the cultural traditions and communities behind it.

Around Orlando, we're fortunate to have plenty of opportunities to enjoy tropical environments, tiki bars, and Polynesian-inspired experiences. But events like Toa Afi offer something different.

And that's one of the reasons Toa Afi has a special place on my Central Florida tiki calendar.

Food and Vendors

No festival experience would be complete without exploring the food.

Part of what I enjoyed about my 2025 visit was the atmosphere of a community festival, rather than a highly commercialized food event. Food vendors, local businesses, artists, and cultural booths all contribute to the experience.

And for someone who's always looking for the next great island-inspired meal, the food is naturally part of the adventure.

It's another reason to spend time exploring the festival rather than focusing exclusively on the scheduled performances.

Island Art, Vendors, and Cultural Connections

Beyond the music and dance performances, Toa Afi Orlando offers opportunities to explore the creativity and traditions of the Pacific Islander community.

Local artists, craft vendors, and small businesses add another dimension to the festival, making it worth spending time exploring beyond the main stage.

One interesting feature was a raffle offering the chance to win a tattoo session with Samoan Mike. Tattooing was not taking place on-site. The raffle was a festival fundraiser and a connection to an art form with deep cultural roots throughout Polynesia.

It's these smaller discoveries, conversations, and community connections that make Toa Afi more than just a weekend of performances.

Why Toa Afi Belongs on Tiki Tim Adventures

Tiki culture and Polynesian culture aren't the same thing. And I think that's an important distinction.

Tiki bars, tropical cocktails, mid-century escapism, and places like Disney's Polynesian Village Resort have all helped create the tropical lifestyle so many of us enjoy.

But Polynesian cultures are far more than the inspiration behind those environments. They represent living traditions, communities, histories, music, dance, art, and family connections.

Toa Afi Orlando creates an opportunity to experience some of those traditions in a setting centered on the Pacific Islander community itself.

It's the kind of event that expands what Tiki Tim Adventures is about. Sure, I love a good tiki bar and a well-made Mai Tai. But I also love discovering the people, places, and stories that make this entire tropical world so interesting.

Is Toa Afi Orlando Worth Visiting?

Based on my 2025 experience, absolutely.

If you're interested in Polynesian culture, fire knife dancing, hula, Tahitian dance, live music, or discovering Central Florida events outside the traditional tourist attractions, Toa Afi deserves a place on your radar.

The performances are exciting, but the sense of community is what stayed with me. Whether you live near the Disney Bubble or are visiting Central Florida and looking for something different, it's an event worth knowing about.

Final Thoughts

There are plenty of places around Orlando to enjoy Polynesian-inspired entertainment, tropical drinks, and island atmosphere.

Toa Afi Orlando is something different. It's a gathering of performers, artists, families, and communities coming together to celebrate their culture and share it with others.

My 2025 visit made enough of an impression that I wanted to return for the 10th-anniversary celebration. And it's exactly the kind of Central Florida experience I enjoy sharing through Tiki Tim Adventures.

Because sometimes the best tropical adventures aren't found inside a resort or behind the bar at your favorite tiki lounge. Sometimes they're found in a field in Central Florida, surrounded by the sound of drums and the glow of a spinning fire knife.

And that's a pretty good adventure in my book.
